Shimano 105 Hub Measurements
I want to build a RR465 rim onto a Shimano 105 5500 hub, and I'm trying to use the DT Swiss spoke calc to work out what spoke length to use. However, I can't find the required input "pitch circle diameter" anywhere. Can anyone help? I have the flange distance from here already, so I think this is all that's missing...
Also, what exactly is the pitch circle diameter? The only references I can find to it are in respect of BCD.
Thanks in advance!

bcd is bolt circle diameter such as on disc brake mounts. pcd is the diameter of the circle made by the the spoke holes in your case. obviously the further away the spoke holes are from the centre of the hub the shorter the spokes needed. im pretty sure your link flange diameter is refering to the centre of the spoke hole which is what you need.from memory the last sora hub i built had 45mm pcd so that concurs with that measurement chart.if you have the hub laying about you can check it with a ruler to confirm it, its trickey with a ruler because the axle sticks out. is it a front or rear you are doing. ones 38mm the other 45mm.
looking here this confirms they mean spoke holes when they say flange diameter.
45mm for the rear sora hub on this page.

so you have for a rear 5500 hub =45mm.
front 5500 hub =38mm.0 -
It's the front. Thanks for that, will try checking it when I've stripped the wheel."And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

I've put a video up on how to measure your hubs
http://www.wheelingwrinklies.co.uk/WBPE/WBPE.html
Haven't optimised it for download yet so it's not that small.
PCD is usually meant to be the diameter of the circle through the centre of the spoke holes on the flange but double check with the formula you use as I have seen the diameter to the outside edges before.
The above link has a calculator you can download too. I've checked it against 10 others and believe me it's accurate though erring ever so slightly on the short side (<0.5mm).I may be a minority of one but that doesn't prevent me from being right.
