Big grain of salt but a light, tall climber buddy of mine with a 58cm Cervelo R3 wanted to try one. Whatever UK pro team it was 1 or 2 years ago were selling their team bikes at the end of the season with DA 7800 and Easton wheels I think for about £1200. They were in quite good shape.
His story didn't go into details but he paid the money and took delivery of the bike. He rode it into work for 3 days (after racing on the Cervelo the preceeding Sunday) and really didn't care for it. Ti compared to carbon was sluggish and heavy feeling and the geometry wasn't as sharp maybe adding to the sluggish feel.
That is literally all he said but it's a start. If you want I can pose some follow up questions. Will be seeing him at this O2 Cavendish/Ligget do ce soir. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
Can't comment on the Sabbath but my Enigma Echo is far from sluggish when compared to my Colnago CLX, it's the same weight and if anything it's sharper and more responsive.0

Hi All.
Well i'd say they are rather good. BUT there's a couple of things to clear up here. First, Frans Jacques must be referring to the Silk Road Pro (not Silk Road) and the original 2006 version at that because that's the last time a team (and we sponsor a pro team every year) had Silk Road Pro's. They were heavier, we wanted them business like and reliable in our first production year. That said, they were good enough for Robin Sharman to claim second overall in the Premier Calendar UK Pro series that season on. Anyway, that's not a Silk Road and nor is it a current model. The new pro is radically different, and the race bike supplied to team zappi this year is the Mondays Child. If a racer had just swapped from a Cervelo, the MC is far nearer the product he / she is likely to go for.
We deliberately change geometries and tube specs on each model with a particular end user in mind. The Silk Road is very much the super plush sportive bike. Its designed for long hours in the saddle. Both the geometry and the tube design lend themselves to those ends. People who buy a Silk Road and then use it for sportives will, i think, be happy with them. If you want a lighter version with the same geometry, you need the alp. Want more aggression and tighter handling, go for the new version of the Pro. Want it lighter, very aggressive and super stiff / responsive, you need to look at Mondays Child or the new 2011 Nirvana (watch this space!)
So, there's what i think. Horses for courses....

I love mine.

Yours, Scrumple, is a 2008 version i think. So same geometry as current 2010 model, but with similar aesthetics to the original. It will also have a manipulated top tube i reckon.. . that one was sportive bike comfort and stability, race bike handling on the descents.
We have a couple of 2010 alp demos we're getting rid of along side the team bikes you may hav eseen advertised. think they are mediums.
