hi, im considering getting a proper bike fitting session and just wondered if anyone here has used a service like this around the manchester area and whether you were happy with the results?
i've heard about the specialized fitting sessions and these sound pretty good.
i just seem to be chasing that perfect position but never quite getting there.
alternatlively, if anyone can recommend a method that they have followed themselves, that would be helpful?
any advice or experiences in this is greatly appreciated
thanks

You will likely get directed towards Paul Hewitts in Leyland, but my experience was a bad one and the fitting was worlds away from what I got from Adrian Timmis at Cadence Sport and ruined my riding for about 6 months. Seat was set 40mm higher and reach was recomended 50mm longer than Adrian set it. Fortunately I could not get a stem long enough to make the change to the reach (Paul Hewitt stated I had the wrong size frame - although he would be happy to supply a replacement!) and although my feedback on the jig was that I felt very streched out I was told that I was paying for the expertease to tell me how I should ride not what currently felt good, if it felt that good I wouldn't be there

Other people have other experiences which had led me to travel from Lincolnshire to Hewitts in the first place

Review what other people state and make your own mind up though, but for my opinion I would (and did) travel a couple of hours to Adrian which was the best money and time I have spent on cycling (NapD will be along soon to agree I should think)

I would (and did) take the 50mile drive down to Adrian Timmis, as has been suggested. Everyone (inc. me) seems to be very happy with the results, and no complaints on the value-for-money front.

Adrian Timmis is where it's at, will likely not be doing any fits for a few week as he's just had a shoulder operation though.
Price includes moulded footbeds which are as much a revelation as the fit itself. Plus you get to speak to a very experienced ex pro of the highest calibre!

  • Hi Gaz / Andy

At risk of shameless self promotion, I am Richard of Pedal Precision up here in Manchester.

I have no doubt Cadence Sport does a good job and I have no intention of suggesting otherwise. Just wanted to give a little background on my company and how it differs a little bit so people can have the information.

Pedal Precision has grown from a need for a lot of people who were unable to get a decent bike fit from a shop, but finding that shop fitters are unaware of how to address specific injuries or problems. In a similar vein, physiotherapists can treat your injuries or symptoms, but do so on a localised basis and rarely have the 'on bike' knowledge to address an underlying issue with bike fit or body misalignment/malfunction while riding.

To cut a long story short (er), I have worked in cycle industry for many years and been racing (mainly mtb endurance and road training) for even longer. I went back to university to study Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Whilst studying I was still racing and working in a bike shop. As more people got to know what I was studying, the more people wanted advice on injuries, pain, and power-related bike fit issues. And so a company was born, to try and be a little more 'personal' about bike fit.

What I try to do for people is give them a long term solution to any issues they are suffering from, whether it is just bike fit or biomechanical which may involve tailored stretching or exercise programmes.

I Hope this gives you a little background. Sorry to highjack the post. If anyone wants any advice or pointers, the company is still relatively new so I am just trying to spread the word and give helpful advice where I can, so any questions just give me a shout.

    All the best,

    Richard
