general screw query

Hi Guys
A general "engineering" query
On my road derailleur, the cable stop screw does not screw into the metal of the derailleur but into a seperate "spring like" coil of metal which it would appear has been pushed into a smooth hole in odrer to provide a thread for the allen bolt.
What is the advantage of this over just putting the thread straight into the metal of the derailleur and what is it called?
I ask as the Metal coil has come loose thus nessecitating a whole new derailleur!!
Cheers

harder wearing surface so less likely to strip the threads.

you may get away with getting some metal adhesive/bonding agent in there.
