Mountain Bike holidays

Hi All,

Was looking into MTB holidays in the alps next year. But, I have questions!

First off, where to look for more info? What companies are the ones that people use a lot? Where are the best places to go? I'm not made of money so 5* mega hotels are not needed, but comfort, good food, and good riding is necessary! France/Italy/Switzerland is not important, I've been to Chamonix when I was younger with my family, and loved that area.

Also, I ride on a 100mm travel XC bike, is it possible in most of these holiday locations to hire out bikes with a bit more travel? Correct me if I am wrong but I'm not sure a 100mm travel bike would cope on the side of an alp?

And finally, is there any companies who do holidays as groups? Any of my friends who ride bikes aren't really MTBers and would probably brick themselves at the sight of a hard trail, are there companies out there who do this sort of thing?

Thanks
Ian

I'm loathed to recomend them, but for you, you could do worse than Alpine Elements.

They're cheap so are always full, have big 'guided' groups so you'll meet loads of people to ride with and rent bikes. We used them years ago and were renting out Stinky's for £250ish a week. Lots of other choices.

We used them once, the accom was OK - you get what you pay for, the staff amazing but budget they got to feed us all was crap so the food was only as good as our host could do with it.

    We've used Trail Alpine http://www.alpineelements.co.uk/mountai ... idays.html

ever since, but it's usually dead quiet, we had the place to ourselves last time I went so not ideal for you.

See my comments in this thread http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12736250 - cheap self planned holiday in Morzine ahoy!

The resa-morzine link in there is common to pretty much every french resort so you can find an alternative.
