Has anyone had experience with fitting a full sus bike to a Saris Bones 3 rack?
I have got a Giant Trance X so the shock is just in front of the seat post and the top tube has a bit of a kink.

Yes. Get yourself a Saris false crossbar thing, it clamps to the stem and the seatpost, giving you another top tube to hang on the rack.

get a saris bike beam, i have to use one with my spark.

it does the job but also use some rope or bungee cord as when using a bike beam your creating a false crossbar meaning your bike is hanging by the stem and seatpost.

i'd hate to think if the seatpost clamp came loose, the exra rope is for peace of mind :)

  • With a bit of effort I can fit my C'dale Prophet on it. Although cant get it on the 3rd position (ie. closest to the car) And if you look at the shape of the Prophet frame you'd see that the shock connects in middle of the tube restricting it a lot more than the likes of your Trance. So i dont think you would have a problem with it.
  • My Blur wouldn't fit and I didn't fancy the false bar thing, so the Bones has gone.

Bunch of whiney so and sos. The bike beam crossbar thing is fine. It's carried our bikes hundreds and hundreds of miles, safely.
The only downside is that with a normal hardtail bike, there is a strap on the Saris that stops the bike swaying to and fro, but with the bike beam, that's not really in the right place - so I use a bungee thing to stop the bikes wobbling.

Pendle bike rack is the holy grail for akward shaped bikes. You can adjust any height of seperate supporting arms to suit your needs. 6 straps system holds bike rack really well on motorways and didn't even notice bike rack wobble. Also, another 2 straps provided to fix the bikes on the rack are usefull to fix bikes on it. Its a very compact and usefull piece of kit which you can fold and put in a boot without taking loads of space, my tennis rackets bag takes more space.

Would like to see Saris lego system in real life.

My main reason for going for the Saris Bones is that it has to fit on a VW Passat saloon. Most carriers only fit estates & hatchbacks.
Not too sure about that bike beam. Might take a trip to the local bike shop with car & bike & see what will fit both.

Well, with a bike beam anything will fit the rack. You can even have three completely different, oddly sized bikes.
See, my bike would still not fit onpopstar's rack, no matter how adjustable it is. I'd still need a bike beam for it.

Hehe, yehaa ... wolfridge+Zesty and a hardrock as a 3rd bike were on it. Shame I can't prove it without pictures. I have an Accord saloon.
