I'm looking for a decent set of race wheels, but on a serious budget, so ebay is my main source! This might sound like a ridiculous question but I was wondering if there is a problem with using completely different wheels front and back. If I find a deal for a mavic front wheel and then another bargain for a bontrager rear wheel. Its just I don't see that?

The only problem with different front and rear wheels is that it will probably look ugly.

What's your budget? If you're looking second hand then make sure the hubs run smoothly (especially if they're cup and cone).

Not really a problem using different front and rear wheels (assuming they are the same size, etc).

Most wheels are sold in pairs for obvious reasons - that's all. If you can find single wheels and get a better deal - go for it.
