apologies if ive posted this in the wrong section but couldnt find anyway it seemed to fit and thought what the hell, this'll do !

ive been given a carrera subway 2 from a workmate and plan on giving it to my son but the decals on the frame are in a bit of a state. looks like the last owner stuck his own specialized stickers over the top in a ridiculous attempt to disguise it and made a right arse of the whole thing. ive pulled all the specialized stuff off but the carrera stickers are still on and in a right bloody mess.

tried nailvarnish remover and hairdryer and nothing has loosened them up and cant even seem to find an edge to get at them, any other ideas to remove them ? or am i fighting a losing battle ? im wondering if the frame has a clear lacquer over the top which is why i cant find an edge to get at.

cheers for any help.

If they're laquered...you're knackered hahaha *ahem*

A hairdryer will loosen any warning labels that are stuck onto the surface of the paint but if the stickers are under the laquer there's not much you can do other than strip the frame.

You could always use some judiciously applied paint stripper to remove the very worst labels and maybe repaint or re-sticker the offending area(s). Bodge-tastic but it might look OK. From a distance.

    Welcome to the forum BTW!

If you can't find an edge to get at them, then they will be lacquered.

You can try using a fine grain sand paper and just removing the lacquer? Then the decals and then respraying with lacquer to get a good finish again?

Or if you've got some spare time, strip the frame of components and take it to some local powder coaters, they should re-coat it for you for £30- £50?

New powder coat job is the way forwards - you should be able to get a media blast and powder coat for around £30-40. Check online and in the yellow pages for "Powder Coaters". You'll get a super tough finish for the same as it would cost you to get all the bits to do a half arsed job yourself, without any of the hassle. :D
