Damage to carbon frames

Is there any way to assess how badly a carbon frame has been damaged after a crash to decide whther it should be binned or not?

I have had a Boardman frame sitting in my garage that is damaged, but it's hard to see how bad. It's obviously in one piece, but the carbon has sort of spalled at the back on the head tube behind the aluminium insert for the fork bearings.

I was going to take it to LBS to see what they think, but I question what a visual inspection would uncover.

Any ideas?

    X-ray.

Do Boardman have a crash replacement policy?

Z Ray seems an expensive option.

Crash replacement policy!!!! Sounds like something I should have had with an insurer.

Halfords did politely inform me that a new frame would be £850. With the cost of the snapped forks and new bearings at £150, that's the cost of a new bike.

Take it to LBS if they have experience in the area.

Or take lots of photos and send them Boardman to get some feedback from them.

Or maybe see if there are any engineering companies nearby that have carbon fibre manufacture or repair knowledge and seek their advise.

X-ray is probably the only way to see how serious the damage is. A lot of manufacturers have a crash replacement policy, but not Boardman by the sounds of it. And a Boardman frame definitely isn't worth £850!

You could try carbon Cycle Repairs.
