I have just fitted a brand new HG50 cassette and HG50 chain All the gears work great except for the smallest cog, upon which the chain seems to jump every so often.
Does anyone know why this occurs and how to fix it.
Thanks

How did you join the chain?
If you used a Wipperman connex link, then it has to go on in the right direction.
The other way it can cause skipping on the smallest rear cog.
Not so if KMC tho'
If you used the rivet then check the work for a nice join.0 -
have you looked for stiff links? is the mech hanger bent, might be if you can only get the lower gears working and the higher gearers not working or after adjusting, the higher gears working but lower gears not...had this problem the other week and it was a bent hanger0

+1 for stiff linkGo for the break
Create a chaingang
Make sure you don't break your chain0 -

i'd say a stiff link but if its not, and assuming that it is set up and trimmed correctly, are you using the correct lockring for the size of you smallest cog?Crafted in Italy apparantly0

what lock ring did you use? what size is the small cog?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

the cassette is 11-32. The lock ring is the one that came with the cassette. The chain is joined using a chain tool. no split link was used.
I think i will check the link where i joined the chain and perhaps replace it with a split link.
Pretty sure it was not stiff though
thanks for the replies0
