What flatties come with a 2008 P7

Y'all,

Been getting some ITBS knee pain over the last few weeks, and my physio has suggested trying flat pedals rather than the usual spds, at least for the recovery period. Now, I have used spds for years, never ridden properly in flats so am a bit anxious what they'll be like, especially for 2 day ride in the Dales in a couple of weeks.

Now, my 2008 Orange P7 came with decent looking flat pedals, but get the bike specced with spds. The flatties came in a back with the bike, and I wonder what these pedals are most likely to be, and how good they'll grip. I'm particularly worried about foot bounce on bouncy trails. They are black metal, with square non-replaceable pins on the outside of the cage and round non-replacable pins on the axle casing.

Any advise would be very gratefully appreciated...

Sound like the generic VP/wellgo faltties found on many bikes, but with moulded studs. They are a bit basic, heavy and can be slippy. Are better ones out there to be honest.
  • Em... kinda what I thought, don't look particularly aggressive...

    Usual suspects are:

    Wellgo MG1
    Wellgo V12
    Gusset Slim Jim
    Superstar (various)
  • don't seem to be any of those, much less aggressive pins. And no visible logo on them. Must be some cheapo items, not good for a bike that was 1200 quid. Maybe new ones are the order of the day...

Sounds like the same generic Wellgos that come on the Boardmans.

  • Mine is a 2010 Pro 7 and the standard fit are really no good at all - I'm going to upgrade for something with adj pins.

Current issue Oct 2010 of MBR does a review - Grouptest Flat Pedals. Scary prices in some cases.
  • I ride flats as i dont like spd's, recently purchased superstar nano tech's and are unbeleiveable grip, love em. Best pedals ive used so far.

Not many people buy a £1200 bike and ride with flatties - so a waste to put anything other than the cheapest on.

    +1

I can only guess he meant 'no one rides with the factory fit ones'
As there are 2 people in my house alone who ride on flats- DMRs FTW- they are great (once fed their weekly allowance of leg flesh)

Any of the Kona wah wah copies (Nukeproof Neutron, Superstar Nano etc) would get my vote.

Don't bother with moulded pin pedals, the grip is usually awful.
