Hi all,

A while ago my chain was constantly slipping, so I replaced the chain, the cassette. the freehub body, and the chainrings, and it still seems to skip every now and then!!

only thing i can think of is the jockey wheels, but they don't look worn to me?
what do you think? (long shot question i know)

it's a very old STX-RC rear mech...

    seen worse that work.

is it the chain or the body?

    Oooo-er.

Check if any inadvertent slip has not twisted the chain perhaps, should be evident if you look at it along it's length.

Other than that, poor shifting maybe resulting in part of the chain riding up another cog and then coming off under pressure, the resultant shock causing the chain to come completely off the cassette/chainrings?

That's all I can think of, you have replaced all that there is to replace. Check the shifting. if imperfect, adjust, if that does not work, replace cables, (inner AND especially outer - do so anyway if these have not been changed for over a year/two depending on usage) if still no luck, then maybe the RD has too much slop in it if it has seen a lot of usage or maybe the shifter pod.

What you have replaced has eliminated all wear items that DIRECTLY cause the chain to come off the cogs, so you need to look at an indirect cause, and my money goes on poor shifting.

Jockey wheels, I don't really think so unless there is perhaps so much side slop that your cable adjustment takes this into consideration, again resulting in poor shifting overall.

never known a worn jocky wheel to cause a chain to slip, the chain usually runs of the side of the jocky wheel when theres no teeth at all.
