Hi, I've just got some new wheels, Dura Ace 7850 CL clinchers.
I have fitted the cassette tyres, tubes. Have tested it by turning the pedals by hand and it engages well. When I stop turning the pedal the free wheel does not take over and bunches the chain up taking the rear mech with it.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Gutted...
Top quality new wheels and they don't ven check them...
Assuming you have done everything correctly, it sounds like the freewheel is jammed. This could happen for excessive lubrication (or the complete lack of) or because one of the pawls is broken/jammed. If you rotate the cassette by hand, do the pawls catch?
If not, as they are new, I would return... no point in trying to sort the problem yourselfleft the forum March 20230 -
If it is a 10spd cassette, have you put the small spacer on before the cassette. I forgot to do this when I was swapping a cassette onto my new wheels. Had exactly the same result as described.0

I wouldn't expect a new Dura Ace wheel to be duff. Sounds like the lack of a spacer is causing the cassette to contact something it shouldn't. Take the cassette off again. Does the freehub behave like it should? ie turn one way but not the other? If so, reassemble with reference to Shimano tech docs.0

Hi, I got to the bottom of it late last night.
theknowledge, was correct, the wheel I took the cassette off had no spacer. So i wasn't even aware that I needed one. A look at the Shimano tech docs soon made sense of things.
I sent the wife out to my LBS to pick up the spacer I needed, she's a good wife. Made me feel slightly guilty for purchasing the wheels on line.
