Evans now have the full 2011 range and relaese dates for Caad8, Caad10, Synapse & Supersix (and Hi-Mod if you have mental money to spend... )

Supersix 105 (£1799) looks very good value again, don't know much about 105 rims though..

The Synapse also looks very nice indeed, esp the Sram Apex colourway (not that i'd buy a bike on colour alone you understand...erm) looks intesresting...Wonder how Apex would compare with 2011 105?

Any comments on any of the range and specs listed?

  • Agree the Super Six 105 looks good value in comparison to the rest of the range, as does the CAAD 8 Sora.

Yes, I was wondering... is the Synapse Carbon 105 available only in Black :(? I really love the Berserker Green, it looks fabulous. I sent a question through the EC website, but no response yet.

By the way, this is my first post on the forum and I would like to say Hello to All.

  • the apex is a groupset designed to help out those who have trouble with the hills and need a larger ratio. 105 is more of a racers groupset although it can be bought with a compact chainset

What's the difference between the SuperSix and Synapse? The geo looks identical to me...forgive my middle aged eyes! :D
  • the evans price list dont tell the whole story
the top end supersix hi mod team is............
    £9000
    no joke

same price for the new 2011 felt AR0 (£9000)
felt used to make fantastic bikes for almost sensible money but their prices have rocketed since they started sponsoring TdF teams

one company i'm impressed with for 2011 is scott
their top road bike the addict rc, 2010 price £7499
    2011 addict rc £5599
slight equipment change and slight weight gain but their top bike has actually come down in price

i think bike manufacturers charge silly money because they know that some people will pay it.
this year i have two friends who bought brand new motorbikes, 1 was a yamaha (600cc i think), price £3500, the other bought a ducati rrp over £6000, he paid £4000, when you see the technology on a motorbike, i find it hard to see how bicycle manufacturers can charge so much.

It seems Cannondale UK do rather take the mick. The CAAD 10 Ultegra is 20% cheaper in France for starters - well worth a trip across the channel.

Does anyone know if they will be making the Supersix Hi Mod Team frameset available? It's for sale in most countries but the UK seems strangely protective about these things.

    ?
  • the super is classed as an elite race bike
the synapse is classed as a performance bike
    geo is different
both incorporate different features to suit their needs

really enjoyed the CAAD10 in the mountains. Almost 200 miles and 18000ft of climbing as well as some incredible swooping descents. Was lovely to hurtle down 10 mile winding chicane and hairpin bends as well as being light enough for the climbing duty as well. I'd prefer something above 105 and the RS10 wheels but it would make a great all round frame IMHO.

Does it all well and looks good too :D

I've ordered a Synapes Apex, 20% off when I ordered from Primera. Delivery estimated late Jan to mid Feb. Evans would not price match!

I'll be giving the Apex a good test in the Alps this summer as I'm used to a triple. Just have to decide whether to take it to Belgium in March or take my now winter Spesh?

Hi Hardy, just wondering what made you choose the Synapse SRAM over the 105, is it just personal preference or is it because of the 32 rear cog ?
Also if you are used to a triple why didn't you go for the Synapse 105 triple ?
I'd be interested because I'm looking at the Synapse 105 myself and was going for the triple because the ratios are similar the my current triple.
    Thanks

    Hi Lemon

A few reasons. I spend a lot of time in the Alps so the ratio is defineatly a draw for the Apex.

I find with my triple at the moment (Shimano Tiargra) I'm only using one gear (the easiest) in the granny ring.

The compact 105 for the riding I do in the summer I'd struggle so much I wouldn't enjoy it. Would probably have to change the rear cassette to a mountainbike one anyway.

I also like the Sram shifters as they are set up for a double not a triple which when I get better with the mountains I can change the rear mech and cassette much cheaper than a chainset.

I maybe wrong but I believe that the 105 left shifter is set up for a triple and I would find irriating if I changed to a double later on.

Last point, my husband is a snob and keeps saying I have fishing tackle on my bike at the moment! And I expect you can guess what he has got........ Campagnolo

To be fair to your husband, Shimano do make amazing fishing reels, especially salt water multipliers :D

LOL. True, and you know what the killer of all this is?... It comes with Shimano wheels. I'm not getting away from the fishing comments just yet
  • Put a deposit on a Synapse 105 alloy yesterday with Evans, with a "due" date of 10-14 days.
Now i find that it's now been pushed back to April 30th
