Jesus that was depressing - just watched it on Iplayer - I curse the day Cpt Birdseye first set sail the bearded kiddie fiddler.
Seriously though, there is no hope for the human race is there? Save the oceans = more food production on land to sate our ever growing population = more CO2 = acid oceans = dead coral reefs = dead fish = dead oceans = more farming = dead land = dead us.
(this is an over simplification of an enormous problem obviously)

We'd just have to resort to canabalism
These programs make something out of nothing (along with the media).
I remember when the world was supposed to end several years ago and loadsa people quit their job in spectacular fashion. Wonder if anything similar will happen in 2012?0 -
There's a very good Sci-Fi book called The Last Gasp by Trevor Hoyle which starts off very much like this with the earth's oceans starting to die.0

According to the scientific research the current rate of depopulation means that the oceans will become unviable in 40 years - I may not be around to see it but I suspect quite a few on here will.projectsome wrote:These programs make something out of nothing (along with the media).
And there is the attitude we need - "oh its nothing, just ignore it. And global warming. Deforestation. Holes in the ozone layer. etc etc. Bloody moaning scientists what do they know?"Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
at the moment, the human world is screwed.
We have hardly any fuels left, we are over populated to the extreme, We detroy what we need to feed to build cities and homes. its crazy as a species we are screwed.
but i honestly think we are gonna blow ourselves up before we get to that.0 -
Yarp, the end of the human world is nigh!0

havnt even got skynet up and running yet and nukes havnt blowen up major parts of the usa. so its all good.0

The program mentions that the US are managing their waters and as a consequence of research and management they have generally seen improvements in sea stocks of 50% of species - thats great.
But then they go on to interview a major fish distributor who has daily delivers from the world over to fulfil his markets - so by stopping fishing in their local waters they look good but the reality is it pushes the problem elsewhere.
Its the age old problem that if everyone doesnt work together you get no where.
We need a global dictator who can sort this mess out - one man with a plan and the force of will to carry it out. And a bicycle. He should definitely ride a bicycle.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
