just seen that the edge 800 delivery in uk has been moved back to dec 4th.
maybe a sign of gremlins in the device already??
does any think the 705 may come down in price when the edge 800 is finally available??

FFS - where did you read that? I've had mine on pre-order for 3 weeks and the scheduled date says 'late october'. Grrrrr....
2007 Price Street Speed
2011 Trek Madone 4.70 -
had email from chainreactions, and probikekit gave me the exact same date as them (4th dec).
also just found its on evans website as well - 4th dec.
wiggle still say late oct, but bet you that changes.
i wont mind about the delay...if all the problems are fixed prior to launch, but lets face it, thats never gonna happen!

Surely that's just a shipping delay somewhere in the supply chain. There's no way there's enough lead time between now and early december to make changes to the spec and rebuild/programme all of the units that have already been produced.0

With the firware glitches that have decimated the 705 on updating, I am not the least bit surprised release has been postponed to a later date.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

Least the 705 is sorted now and will come down in price, I wouldnt change mine for anything, love it.Helmand Province is such a nice place.....0

i had the same email from chainreactions. said they now expect delivery on 4th dec. :x
do you really think the 705 will come down in price??
i hope it does as i would rather that over the 800 - like you say, its sorted all the bugs! although i cant see it myself. the 500 has been out for a few months now and yet the 305 is still the same price0 -

really? firmware 3.2 was a step backwards and has since been removed from the garmin site. They advise that you rollback to 3.1 as 3.2 has "killed" a few units!0 -

^^^this
garmin's attempts to get the 705 firmware working properly have been hopeless, it *still* has ridiculous bugs impairing its ability to do even the basics correctly, with that track record it's hard to see how the 800 will be any better
no way i'm buying another garmin, on my new bike i got a different computer, keeping the 705 for travel where the mapping is handymy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
What bugs with the 705, stands back to avoid the rush, mine seems to work O.K. over the last 2 years.
Perhaps I'm not using it properly?
Only real downer that I could see was that the original mapping was very sparse on detail on training centre, with no updates ever being available - I was told by Garmin.
Still the Google maps option sorted that.0 -

the 3.2 firmware that was so bug-ridden even garmin pulled it is proof enough, or did you miss that? it was he one supposed to correct the bugs in 3.1
depending on release, 3.x features such wonderful characteristics as...
the bad altitude processing
the spurious pauses/resumes
the freezing display fields
the power spikes
...or don't you consider those bugs?
read the support forum, you'll find plentymy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
I'm only asking because, as I said, I have not experienced any.
Sorry to have apparently upset you. :oops:0 -
I ended up rolling back to 3.1 after 3.2 crashed and wiped the Manchester 100 data, then factory reset itself........0

Went to my LBs today to find out if mine is delayed and as far as they are aware its still set to arrive on November 14th ? Don't know if its anything to do with stock levels arriving in the country? I ordered mine as soon as i could. Still could get a call in the week to tell there is a delay i guess0

Is it just Wiggle that are doing the 'Trail' package ie Edge 800 + 1:50k OS (no performance stuff)? This is just what I want but wondered if it may be cheaper elsewhere.0

I find the Garmin eTrex Vista CX fine for bike routing. All of the hrm stuff comes via my

What!!!
Nowhere near sorted. 3.2 a disaster. Rollback to 3.1 for some degree of stability.
Can't see the 705 receiving much attention to resolve these ongoing issus, what with the release of the 800 clearly taking precedence.
Hands on with the 800 at the weekend at Cycle Show was OK but nothing to persuade me to change from the 705, especially while issues remain.
Come on Garmin, get it sorted. Soon. There's no such thing as too old.0 -
Delays are perfectly normal for a new Garmin, don't be surprised if it's delayed a lot longer.Smarter than the average bear.0

It completely killed mine. Wouldn't power up, couldn't soft or hard reset and less than 4 months old. Got a refurbished one back that wasn't in as good as nick.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -
I was gonna change to the 800 but NOW I think I'll stick with my 750. I did, back in the Summer (remember that) have a total catastrophic failure with my 750 when the cadence sensor caught on the spokes or such like the unit didnt know what the hell was going on I reset it TOTALLY on the road...and it works like normal now = I feel it was the snapping of the cadence arm AND the 3.20 update that had the unit go awol...still at least its ok...[;)] 'tuono nel mio cuore...[:)]0

I'm waiting for the 800 to arrive, to replace my 705 that dissapeared at Hog Hill. Lets hope it gets here soon. I didn't experiance any of the firmware issues, but then didn't use the cadence sensor or link to a powermeter.0

Here in the Netherlands its earliest release date is the 2nd week of 2011

Giant Defy 4
Mirage Columbus SL

garmin rep had a demo model at the specialized concept store last week and said they will be out in next couple of weeks- :?0
-
They're thin on the ground, most if not all units dispatched to dealers will be snapped up by pre-orders. I managed to get an order in with UK Bike Store (confirmed by phone) so I might get mine in the next few days. I called Handtec and they said possibly next week or first week of December?!0

I'm in the US and received one today. It may not be worth keeping. The display screens can not be customized and setting up workouts is not intuitive. I have an email into Garmin support, so I'll see what they have to say,0

Page 31 of the Garmin Edge 800 manual goes into detail on customising the screens, in fact it goes on for five pages such are the many options to display on various screens.
Maybe you overlooked it?0 -
Update: Apparently ALL units destined to the UK are delayed until the 17th November. Madison are sole importers, so there doesn't seem a way around it - unless you're in the US
Not much hope of getting one until perhaps 19th November now.0 -

Arse. My Amazon order just updated itself to "Out of Stock" so looks like this is the case. Evans and Wiggle both show the same.0
