Is there anything, specifically trousers, that will cope with heavy rain?

probably, but depending how hard you are going and how long you are out you may be as wet from the inside. rainlegs are quite popular but in foul weather your feet are going to get wet so you may suffer with that

  • i use giordana windproof tights. in torrential rain they're not waterproof but never notice the rain to be honest, they're magic (although 100 quid ish), but worth it, i've worn them in bad weather for a year. plus they sort of stop at waist level so you're free to use upper layers to control body temp (they don't have a super high bib top bit which i like).

Dress from bottom to top, waterproof overshoes, waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket, waterproof gloves. As for hat, I use a baseball cap so the peak stops rain blasting into my face.

Jeez if you have everything waterproof you'll just boil in your own juices. Never had any waterproof tights - so long as you can keep the chill off - doesn't matter if you get wet. Neoprene overshoes are handy to keep the worst off your feet and keep the warmth in too.

I guess you don't ride when it's raining that hard, or when it's cold. Riding when it's windy, torrential rain is not plesent if you just wear lycra. You'll catch your death.

Everything waterproof isn't too bad, in wet weather it's safer not to go full pelt anyway due to grip/oil. So you're not going to be sweating that much.

It's a hot day and it rains fine it's great, but I'd still wear waterproof overshoes.
