Bloody rear mech hanger bolt has sheared off....

Was planning to use the bike to get to work tom. Holding the hanger in place with tie-raps, and it seems pretty secure when then rear wheel is in place

Safe to use ? or should i wait till i can get a new hanger bolt ?

could be expensive if it fails.

    remove mech, go singlespeed.

    or wait for the part

  • Some bikes have bolts fitted that are designed to shear. I would not use your bike without the rear mech attached properly.

Could end up costing you a new mech and wheel rebuild plus whatever injuries you could end up with.

    +1

my hanger snapped a few months ago, I was not very happy with the resulting damage

locked up wheel but only after breaking a number of spokes
    chewed up the deraileur
damaged chainstay on carbon road frame - luckily appeared to be cosmetic damage only
    snapped chain
