Can you tell me the main "feeling" difference between a SPD pedal or a egg beater one ?? I actually like egg beaters a bit better but I really have no idea about the form over function difference if there's one.

Older Egg Beaters feel much more 'loose' than SPDs, the float is very free and there's a reasonable amount of lateral and vertical movement too. The new ones come with rubber shims you can use to stiffen the float and make them more SPD-like. SPDs only have float in one plain, rotational.

SPDs are significantly heavier than Egg Beaters, but until now the durability has been vastly superior. The new Egg Beaters should address this.
  • Eggbeaters have a fixed release angle, 15 or 20 degrees depending on cleat set up and about 6 degrees of float.
SPD have a tension adjusted release and about 4 degrees of float.
