Single speed gearing

Going to use my old Stumpjumper full sus frame and turn it into a Single speed. Anyone suggest the best gearing for a novice and the any chainguides tensioner I may need. Finally what sort of crankset should I be useing. :?

you will need a suitable sprung tensioner to cope with the chain grow.
