Just purchased myself an Mmbop and Fox 36 Talas (2009) forks from chain reaction. I'm unsre of which headsert and stem to use. Obviously my choices are limited due to the 1.5" straight steerer. Can anyonerecomend a headset? I was thinking of the thomson X4 stem but its only 45mm long and the recomended lengths are 50-70mm.
I'm 5'11" 88kg-ish and have bought the 18" frame.
I intend on using the biek for some downhill, freeride and some trial riding on accaision. I'm not planning any huge drops but definetly will attempt some around the 6-8ft mark.
Thanks

I have a 50mm stem on my mmmBop - definitely more suited to the frame (& my riding position) than anything longer.
I would suggest going with the Thomson X4 on the basis that going the other way & fitting something >50mm will slow the steering down too much.
That's my opinion anyway...0 -
I'm 5'11" and also have the 18" frame (mmmbop). I'm running a 60mm Gravity stem and it feels just right for me (but I have long arms). If you already have the Thompson stem give it a try and see what you think. Headset is an FSA Orbit Extreme Pro, but mines a reducer to suit a 1/1,8 steerer tube. Seems nice and smooth and is chunky enough to take some abuse.0

I don't have any other parts yet except the forks and frame. Thanks think I'll go for the FSA orbit extreme pro je jaames have it for around £60 which seems a lot less than other 1.5" ones (cane creek, chris king etc). Think I'll give the X4 a try 5mm shorter than the recomended susrely cant make the world of difference. Needs must I could get a setback post.0
