Firstly is it worth splashing out on a seatpost, will it make much difference?
If so which do i go for?

if your current seat post allows you to adjust the saddle to be in the correct position, then there's not much to be gained by changing it

some people say carbon posts give a slightly more comfortable ride, some people say they feel no difference, the number of permutations of frame, saddle and post probably explains the lack of agreement

a new post could add as much as 3-4 mph. anything over £180 will be good.
  • sungod has got it. you can drop a bit of weight - possible to get down to c.150g. Other than that and aesthetics there's not much point.

Note that almost all road bike purchases on this forum fall into weight and aesthetics buckets ... so go for it!
