My messenger bag was properly bending my shoulder this morning, which got me wondering how much crap people haul around with them. Today I have:

Pump
Velotrac pack containing tube, Pedro's tyre levers, Topeak Hexus multitool, cheap Blackspoor multitool featuring adjustable spaniard.
Locks (gold level Abus u-lock, plus cable lock for front wheel)
Workbooks, feedback forms, marker pens and other training materials
Galley of the book I'm ghostwriting, marked up with what should be lat edits
Love over Scotland bt Alexander McCall Smith
Guitar Buyer magazine
Waterproof (Lusso Aqua) and trousers (Mac-in-a-bag)
Knog Love/Hate gloves
Spare Lidl track mitts (I really don't like riding without gloves)
Winter gloves (2 journeys on the bounce now, I've realised its cold enough to need them, halfway through)
Netbook
Broadband dongle
Ipod Classic with >13,000 tracks, nice Skull Candy headphones my son bought me
Lights (Magicshine 900 front, Dinotte 140 rear, PB Superflash for my helmet)
Water bottle (now empty)
EAT Ham, Brie and Cranberry baguette, lemonade, and fudge
Two CDs I am labouriously reviewing

....and breathe. You?

As little as possible - have taken to wearing shirts for two days at work to reduce porterage weights (in addition to cutting down on ironing requirements)

Yeah, the laptop my company provide can be put up on 4 fenceposts to provide shade in the garden, provided you don't have more than about 25 guests. That's why I bought a little netbook; better for my shoulder (except that I seem to have made up the weight with other crap), and better for using on train tray tables.

    Yup.

To be honest, unless it was a very hot day in the office, I had a lunch/coffee accident, or I had had an armpit wettingly stressful presentation, shirts do last 2 days - commuting on PT is what gets them sweaty and dirty, not sitting at your desk....

ITB, No i'm not a cop I am a medic in the ambulance service. I do use a car if they send me to somewhere like Ilford or Romford to work (I live in Hackney) but anywhere in London it's self I will cycle as I dont want to pay congestion charge (16 quid if i am doing a night shift) and if I finish during rush hour I don't want to spend forever sitting in a jam when I want to be in my bed. Bike is best :-). Besides think of the fitness benefits from hauling the world around with you on a push bike!

I'm really surprised that ambulance service medics'vehicles aren't exempt from the CC. That said, total respect to you for the work you do and for the way you choose to do it.

only the vehicles themselves, also work on ambulances, all ambulances are 0 VET, and are excempt from the congestion charge, private vehicles owned by the crews unfortunately are not.
