Variable lens sunglasses

Hi

Does anyone know of any sunglasses that have adaptable lenses that will change from reasonably dark to clear? Almost all of the lenses I have seen will lighten up, but not completely. I just find it very annoying with the weather, tree cover etc. You either have the wrong glasses on for some of the ride, or end up riding without them on.

Any suggestions?

  • Transitions (as in team Garmin) are pretty good.

I have a pair of Specialized glasses, El Toro (I think). They have Spec's MTB adaptive lenses which are slightly lighter than the road lenses. Although they do not go fully clear, I find the lowest tint is fine for on road use upto almost full darkness and even enhances contrast when under the amber coloured street lamps.

I have some Rudy Rydons, perfect for main road riding, but could be a little lighter for pitch black lanes

  • I have Oakley Flak Jacket with photocromic lenses, and they are fantastic.
They do not go completely clear (down to 9%) but they seem to brighten everything when it is dull. As the lenses are interchangeable I have also bought some completely clear ones for the early mornings. takes about 1 minute to change both lenses (after a bit of practice)

  • 3 months back I got some Jawbones with Transition lenses and I have to admit they are excellent - the lenses are vented as well so there is no fogging up.

  • I've got Spesh adaptalite, which are lovely and light, and in most conditions help me see really clearly.

My problem is in the rain. They get wet and it's nigh on impossible to see out of them.

    Anyone know any solutinos?

Best solution is probably decent cycling gloves (eg Specialized BG) that have a microfibre cloth on the thumb panels to wipe your glasses clean. Works a treat :).

I have exactly those gloves, but they don't make a difference on these glasses.

I may have to give the car windscreen stuff a go...
  • Odd, works wonders on my MJs.
  • The uvex ones, whilst having a basic fit, actually go as clear as any i've seen. Wouldn't ride without photochromics again, i just wish someone made them with a polarising filter as well.
