I have a chance of a 2 year old bike with the following on-Transmission comprises of Dura Ace Chainset with new 53/39 chainrings, and new ultegra rear and front mechanisms.9 speed shimano cassette.Double would be no good on the hills round here and 58 year old legs! What would I need /cost to change to a compact,105 stuff would do me.Also would the 9 speed cassette take a 10 speed one to give me more range?

changing the chainset is straightfoward, you can get a 105 compact chainset for under a hundred quid, much less if you go for older models

just fit, adjust front mech, take out a link or two from the chain

    either a 9 or 10 speed chainset is ok with a 9-speed chain/cassette

changing to 10-speed is much more expensive/complicated, as well as chainset, you'd need to fit new cassette and chain, plus a new 10-speed shifter

i'd just fit a 10-speed chainset, then later when it's time for a new cassette, consider going to 10-speed then if you can get a good deal on the shifter
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
