Crack in fork steerer
There's a ~1 cm long crack running vertically down from the top of my carbon fork steerer tube.
Presumably I can return it to the maker and see if they will do a warranty replacement, but would it be sasfe just to cut the top, say, 2 cm off? I have quite a few spacers below the headeset and have been meaning to get it cut down anyway.

Send it back. It is the nature of carbon that you cant always see the end of cracks in the material.Neil

+1 for send it back
any idea why it cracked? maybe it's dodgy steerer, but maybe it was caused by the stem or fittng error or expander plug, so for peace of mind i'd try to find out

Yeah, you're both right of course. Absolutely no point taking any sort of risk with that part of the bike.
Thanks, guys.Le Blaireau (1)0
