Bike cleaning during winter

Fairly new to bike riding and not the most mechanical person you will ever meet. Last winter I did not ride very much, as I was too scared to take my new pride and joy out in the rain or on not very nice winter roads (salt, mud etc.). BUT this year I have decided to put on a pair of mudguards and just go for it.
My question is, how much cleaning do I need to do after each ride and what kind of regularly maintenance do I need to do. Also can anybody recommend what you use to clean a carbon frame, the gears and crank etc. with. I have a chain cleaning tool that I use regularly so hopefully this will keep the chain clean.
Any recommendation would be great. :?:

  • After a winter ride I generally wash the whole bike down as soon as I get home using warm soapy water and brush, followed by a rinse off with clean water. I make sure the wheels and braking surfaces are clean.

hwn it's dry I wipe down with a clean cloth / towel before re lubing the pivot points on the front & rear mechs and brake calipers, and the chain. Finally I wipe off excess lube after the lube has had a chance to soak in

I do about 15h a week in winter and all I do is to lube the chain after and wipe it before each ride. I may hose the whole bike every week or two and apply some teflon lube onto the derailleurs. After all bikes are for riding and they don't disolve :)
