My wife has Rockshox Dart 3 forks on her ride, and she complains that there is little if any travel from them, which is worse in the winter.
I have seen a pair of Tora forks which are new old stock. Are these a better step up from the darts, or should I service the darts and place some thinner oil in them.

its only worth replacing the Dart 3 with the Tora if the Tora is a Solo air shock. Otherwise she will have exactly the same problem. Air shocks are much easier to dial in for different weights.

Darts are at the budget end, but the Dart 3s are actually pretty good. This problem has nothing to do with the Dart 3 ability and most likely everything to do with your mrs being lighter than the spring is meant for.

For about 20 quid you can buy a replacement spring for the dart (light spring) and all will be fine.
  • My wife is not light and I do not mean in a nast way. She is 6ft 5. Even I have trouble with the forks and I am 15 stone and a rugby player and heavy weight boxer?
Someone once said changing the oil for one which was not so viscous.

Did they ever perform? They might be stuck, getting them serviced might work, tbh changing the oil is going to make feck all difference with a person of that size.

silly question No1 - she does have the turnkey lock out turn anti-clock wise all the way? and you have removed all the pre-load (other side).

    What bike is this on?

She might want to swap to 120mm shock
  • same applies, men or women, over the 16 stone mark, it doesn't matter what coil spring you put in they'll bottom out and won't feel right. air is the only way to go.

so she might well feel the benefit of a tora over the dart initially but she'll run into the opposite problem as she's got now eventually. I'd be tempted to service the dart and go from there.
  • Thanks peeps.
  • Just to say, Ithought the turnkey was turned all the way around (told to by wifey), so went out here and the turnkey was tight. So I did something naughty and used a set of pliers and it moved some more, infact a lot more and now the forks actually move. Even she is happy.

  • i had tora 318 coils. im 10stone (on a good day, anywhere between 9 and 10 depending on the previous meal tbh), and i found the toras to be lovely and soft that i owned. now i never changed the spring so i assume that they were fitted with the standard spring. they were coil only, so no air, and i found them to be awesome. just my 2p thou :)
