Poor in-cable adjustments on SRAM Rival: need help
Hi guys,
The question is regarding the indexing adjustments on Sram Rival. Usually you would find an axdjustment barrel at the end of the cable. Mine has in-cable adjustments near the handlebars. If you turn these "barrels" to adjust the indexing the "barrels" would gradually turn themselves back to zero position.
No signs of cable fraying/stretching.
I could of course undo the end adjustment bolt and tighten the cable but it's an extremely delicate operation - I think any LBS would prefer turning the barrels.
Appreciate any advice.......

Mine doesnt! Are we still talking Sram Rival? Each cable ends with what would otherwise look like an adjustment barrel, but it's not threaded - cannot make any adjustments...............
in which case, the threaded adjuster has fallen out somewhere, because it definitely has one. Google a few pics of SRAM mechs and compare them with yours...0 -

Hmm... Was a brand new bike when collected from an authorised dealer...
Also Sheldon Brown's says that "On road bikes with handlebar-mounted shifters, there will usually be an adjusting barrel at the cable stop where the upper length of housing ends on the upper end of the down tube."
Mine is actually incorporated into the cable and it slips when twisting the adjuster (so no adjustment is made). You need both hands to make an adjustment - surely this is not whan one is meant to do while on the road....0 -
I've got Rival on a Trek XO2. It has the barrel adjusters that you describe, but for sure it has an adjuster on the mech too. The barrel adjusters can be tight to adjust but with a bit of lubricant you should be able to get them to between a couple of fingers.
Take a look here

the structure at the top left of the picture is the adjuster."The only absolute statement is that everything is relative" - anon0 -
dont be confused by the plastic piece no being threaded and being able to float up and down against the spring, its splined and turns the metal part of the adjuster beneath it which is threaded into the derailer. you wont see the plastic part winding out.0

Here's the barrel adjuster on the RD mentioned by others, easil visible behind the RD and a couple of inches above the lower jockey wheel (couldn't see a means of pointing to it or would have done so)
