Free hub bodies that aren’t made of butter

Anyone know of any free-hub bodies that are not aluminium and are more durable. I’m fed-up with my cassettes mangling the aluminium and am not really prepared to pay 50+ for fancy cassettes. I’m aware that Hope make one.

I currently run Mavic Crosslines which I’ve had replaced on warranty twice in less than a year both for free-hub issues.

  • I've been running a Hope Pro II rear hub for 3 years and its had 3 different SRAM PG-990 cassette on there, during this time (on different bikes)

the original aluminium freehub body still works fine, not sure what you are doing wrong with your setup?

Mavic freehub bodies aren't usually a problem, what are you doing!? The bush in the back usually renders them ripe for the bin before the cassette's had a chance to mark it!

The damage is generally cosmetic anyway, surprised you're getting it warrantied.

    Shimano hubs won't mark.

SLX comes on a spider and costs around £30, great cassettes... Not as light as an XT but about half of the weight difference is in the lockring so fit an old XT lockring and you're golden. There's less cogs on the spider than XT, 990 etc but it doesn't seem to matter.
