Hello all

I have a compact crank. one of these....

Can it be as easy as changing the chain rings to upgrade to a double?
Links anyone more knowledgeable than i?

Thanks in advance.

  • Yes just make sure the new chainrings are 110 bcd, most 53/39 rings tend to be 130 bcd,,but you can find 53/39 in 110bcd.

you might have to move the front mech up a little bit, and add a link to the chain,,, but you might get away with it

Try Spa Cycles for chainrings - they have a good selection of 110bcd Stronglight rings in various sizes.
    More problems but still living....
  • thanks fellas
with the crank saying the Bolt Circle Diamter is 130. why would i need a 110 ring? just asking.
    Thanks in advance.

If the crank says on it 'BCD 130' then you ain't got a compact chainset.

BCD 130 - FSA conventional double chainset.
BCD 110 - FSA compact chainset.

Do you know your left hand from your right?
  • ok, i found some good info on this. peeps seem to suggest a happy (no swap) medium for mixed riding of a 52/36. might go for that blend. more power in the big ring, with less chance of having a hernia in the smaller front ring when climbing than with a 39.

I think it's possible because its a 16 cog difference which is the Shimano maximum for front mechs. ie 34/50. It's a bit unusual config, but then each man to their own.
