advice on converting hybrid to winter commuter
hey. my 2 year old boardman alu hybrid has been used and abused for commuting to the point where pretty much all the components are seized, rusted, broken or have been removed. I currently only have a front disc brake and use the bike as a single speed since the front derailleur seized and was removed and the rear lever is broken. The rear derailleur is still there, but only to keep chain tension! Basically I want to do a proper BUT VERY CHEAP single speed conversion for winter commuting on this and want some tips, advice or warnings if I try the following; The frame is totally sound.
1. put on some drop bars coz i just prefer them
2. new cantilever brakes front and rear with new levers and cables
3. single speed converter kit for the back wheel (have re-trued wheel after a crash so it still runs great)
4. single speed chainring for the front as cranks/bb still good (not sure how many teeth to go for)
5. totally respray it with halfords fluro paint for winter visibility then few coats of lacquer.

DIY resprays nearly always look sh1te
But it's your bike!
When reassembling your bike after the respray, pay attention to the bearings, which are probably as f00ked as the rest of the bike. Give the headset and hubs a good service and replace the bottom bracket.
