What light that's available from Evans would be befitting for this and perhaps a higher spec'd bike - £2.5k+ carbon. It doesn't have to be a budget set.

  • What do you need it for? Unlit country lanes? Around the town? Run times between charges/run times between charges at high or low levels?
    Say... That's a nice bike..

whats more important to you - the lightness of the set or being able to see where you are going, or being seen ?

I wouldn't mind buying two sets; one which isn't as heavy as the other, and another which always me to seen. Or perhaps even a middle ground. That said, how much weight can a light set realy add?

Depends the cheaper ones will have NIIMH battery packs, the better ones lithium. You could look into a cheaper LED for town riding then a decent light ie Hope Vision 2 for country lane riding. Don't forget rears, get two. Smart have updated 1W, I have two 1/2 and they're very bright. For fronts I've got Hope Vision 4, also got Laseredge (bright but very heavy battery, and not waterproof at all, Electron Halogen, battery ok weight but poor connection) Also NIMH packs have dumb chargers not auto switch off, so hard to judge when they're charged.

First of - it doesnt matter what the bike is - a carbon bike doesnt need any different lights to a cheap hack bike.

Dunno what Evans sell - but I'd go for 2 Smart Superflash on the back. Always 2 as you cant see easily if theyve bust or the batteries worn down.

On the front - to be seen - i'd get a fenix torch on there - £40 or so and runs on AA batteries.

To see - I'd get a P7 torch from dealextreme. An hours light on full - and you'll be able to offroad at night. Er on your carbon 2500 machine....

Extras - get some tyreflies and stick them on your valve caps so you're visible from the side and wear as much reflective kit as possible.

I have the Hope Vision 2 on the front of my road bike and the CatEye 'Night Rider' style light on the rear, the Hope is pretty small and bright and does the job fantastically!

I rode at 3am in the winter last year down some really dark unlit country lanes and it was perfect for the job. :D
