Helmet cam

Firstly I would just like to say hello as this is my first post. I am new here but not to mountain biking in general.

I have been biking for about 5 years now and over the past 2 years started to get into downhill, I finally made the plunge not long ago and purchased a Marin Quake, along with all the body armour (661 jobby).

Now that I have a better bike & equip etc I feel more confident on the trails and attack them with a bit more speed, so I thought it would be pretty cool if I could record them, so now I'm looking at investing in a helmet cam.

First question, is it better to go for an "all in one" cam whereby the lens & recorder are all built into 1 device, or is it better to buy a little bullet lens that you plug into a DV camcorder which you carry in your bag?

Currently I have been looking at the GoPro HD Helmet HERO & the ATC9K HD Action Camera.

They both record in HD, yet the ATC is £50 cheaper than the GoPro so I am more tempted towards that, but can't really spot why the GoPro is more expensive, is it actually better?

Also another interested thing with the ATC was the GPS option, that looks really cool but wonder how much it will cost as i cant find a price yet.

I have found a good review of each: GoPro HD: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/gopr ... -face-off/

ATC 9K: http://www.mtbe.co.uk/atc9k-hd-action-c ... t9286.html

Just can't seem to figure out why the GoPro is £50 more when the ATC seems to have more features :? Has anyone had any experience with these cameras and would be willing to share their opinions?

poppers.

Go Pro would be my choice too, best mounts in the business. Oregon are a bit of a joke, they've been knocking out variations on the ancient ATC lo-fi model for years but the very first model had a desync defect that caused camera wobble, and they just kept on throwing higher resolution, inbuilt screens, etc at it but never fixed that basic fault. Probably the HD is a totally new device so it might finally be fixed but I wouldn't touch another Oregon product for the world.

Contour HD is another good one, they really blotted their record when they launched the original Vholdr, it was an obvious beta product and ended up getting totally redesigned, but early buyers were never offered a replacement despite getting a totally flawed, unfinished product. But the new camera seems very good. TBH there's sod all to choose in terms of quality, they're both fantastic these days so it's more about convenience, battery life, and for mountain bikers most importantly mounting- which is where the Gopro really wins.
