Fancy Dress....

As a big fan of fancy dress parties; I have defined 3 outfits for use at any party:

1, Mexican: Poncho, big hat, toy donkey, cowboy shirt and cowboy boots.

2, Top Gun: Ex RAF flightsuit, cat boots, white tee shirt and Ray bans.

3, 70's Tennis icon: very tight white shorts and shirt, headband and an old wooden tennis racquet.

I use these 3 outfits whatever the party theme is.

Whats your fancy dress outfit? And can it be used generically?

Went to a fancy dress one new yeas eve.

Mrs Bo - £50 on a hired Mother Xmas costume.

Me - yellow safety hat £5 from builders merchants, Checked shirt from oxfam £2.50, models own jeans boots and and a variety of tools from shed. Bob the builder, £7.50 all in!

Mind you, for the money, Mrs Bo looked hell of a lot hotter then me!!!
  • I have a whole world of fancy dress... and as far as Top Gun/Biggles I have an unfair advantage. BTW, cat boots? No no, black ones.

Cowgirl, my mother used to be one so again, unfair advantage - jeans, chaps, check shirt, cowboy boots, acubra, stockwhip, riding gloves.

Witch? Generic, useful for hallowe'en, have an assortment of options, purple wig, black dress, witch's hat, fake fingers with really long nails, broomstick.

Punk - I have a large collection of wigs, so one of those, and my goth days serve me well for the rest of the outfit. I won't go into it, it comes across provocatively.

'70s, huge red afro, flares, bangles, scarf, sunnies.

Oh, and a pawn outfit. That's not very generic though!

A hollowed-out pear or a bowl of custard, and a West Indian accent.

Both costumes only work if the theme is "Emotions".

    Dunno how gereric these might be however I have a couple that have worked pretty well, easy to assemble too;

Papa Smurf, this one looked amazing - could only find red dungarees so not technically 100% accurate, take your time & apply the body paint heavily or else it'll look patchy, I was completely covered from the waist up:

Freddie Mercury in "i want to break free" mode, always goes down well - note the vintage toy hoover from ebay which really set it off, it's all about the detail! 8) (top tip - not everyone gets it & women don't like to be hoovered by a drunk tranny):

  • I borrowed a mate's V for Vendetta outfit once for New Year in St Ives.

I was allowed to keep it after I failed to keep down the day's liquid refreshment.

Hmmm... not sure mine are generic - they've all been for specific themes.

    - Banana
    - Apple
    - Roman centurion
    - Crusader
    - Old '70s get-up
    - Jack Skellington (although need to add a Zero)
    - Dracula
    - Pirate
    - Zombie

LiT - Love the pawn outfit, but have to ask... why?
  • It was a porn, pawn or prawn party, and I (rightly) assumed everyone would go for the 'porn' option.

    It's good to be different.

I just go as a cyclist. Makes getting there and back easier. Besides, quite a lot of my cycling kit is fancy.

My wife went to a Jame Bond party as a "Bond Girl" the morning after the night before.....

Deshevelled dress and wearing a Tux jacket..... without makeup on....

Quite cunning I thought, as everyone else went as James bloody bond or a Bond girl in full attire.

I went as little nellie...but someone stole my rotor blades :-(
  • Love it! That's brilliant!

Right, fancy dress wizards... I've got to go to a Grease themed party (for work, of all things - Black Tie would be preferable). Don't want to go for the obvious Pink Lady/T-Bird costume.

    Any alternative ideas?

Cover yourself in sand and become "Sandy"? or go in a suit and be the school principle...whatever his name was!

Teen Angel (the guy in white who sings 'Beauty School Dropout) is an easy one, or one of the guys at the end in the 'we go together' dance with shorts and golf socks and geeky specs.

If it was me, though, I'd go as either the country, or some grease.

My favourite is to go as a massive OXO cube. Big cardboad box, tin foil, red paper.

I once went as The Flaming Carrot to a superheroes party. The costume wasn't all that but the hairdo needed extreme structural support... think beehive but taller and more conical

  • I go as a tortoise. When they ask who the girl is on my back I just say that's Michelle.

Can you see what I done there?

    OK, I'll get me coat.

A friend of mine did that for a party. He taped a blow-up doll to his back.

That was a good outfit. :D

Excellent - were you the only pawn?

It would have been prawn all the way for me.

Yup, the Greece idea has already come up... could be an option.

@ GTVlusso - like the Sandy idea, execution might be a challenge!
