Chain slipping during shifting

Can anybody give me a bit of advice. When I am changing in the middle of the cassette the chain keeps skipping. Its just not quite rightly indexed. Can I fix this with one of the Thumbscrews on the frame or do I have to start again and index the whole lot of it. Its a Durace cassette with Ultegra SL rear mech.
Thanks
Paulieb

Chain skipping is more a symptom of a worn chain or cassette - or new chain on a worn cassette
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Both are less than 12 months old. About 3000km done on them

Skipping is when the chain jumps forward over the sprocket teeth under load. Very common with a new chain on a worn cassette.

Since your cassette and chain have worn together for just a year this is unlikely. I suspect from your description that you're right, and the indexing is slightly out which means the chain is catching on the cogs of an adjacent sprocket. Just needs a tweak using the barrel adjuster on the downtube.

Thumbscrews are, I believe, illegal these days.
