Hello all

I am after any advice on what frame to buy to upgrade my MTB. I have an old Scott tampico with original 7005 ally frame on which I have upgraded all the running gear to top end kit but now want a better & lighter overall frame and ride. I can then upgrade the wheels and forks around the better frameset to do them justice.

I am not into big jumps or downhills, mainly just riding out cross country, lots of mud, water etc. and some climbing for 3-4 hour rides. Have looked on-line but the choice is mind blowing. Liked the look of the Cove Stiffi?! but looks like a jump frame and quite pricey.

Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks in advance, bring on the winter conditions!

    Azonic Z7, 1.320 kg, raw.

Fits a 140m fork ok, and 2.3 tyres.

This is about my 30th bike, and so far, very happy with it.

Had a Norco Bigfoot, just like a Sifffee, too stiff though, so got the Azonic alu h/tail instead.

    Onone Carbon 456 or Whippet

Ragley MMMbop, only £154 from CRC, weighs 3.4lbs.

Those Azonic Z7's look good too.

kenisis also make good frames for £249 up .
  • Hello all and many thanks for some great frame recommendations. Having considered the options I suspect I will go for the Ragley mmmBop, which seems a great deal too and I can then spend on new forks and wheels etc. to get a better overall bike.

Can anyone recommend a good suspension fork (130 - 150mm) for use with the mmmBop? My current forks are Scott std fit RST?!? which are probably 'old hat' nowadays and don't know if they will fit the new frame as yet. Again the choice is bewildering!

As stated, my rides are all XC, typically 3-4 hours, some climbs, small descents, lots of mud and some technical bits. I don't want to spend a fortune but enough to get some decent forks.

    Thanks all in advance!

    £450 - Rockshox Revalation Team Dual Air http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FORSRETAUT/ ... on-control

    £540 - Rochshox Lyric U-turn http://www.bikeoutlet.co.uk/products/Ro ... 839-0.html

Both are travel adjust forks because the mmmBop has a really slack head angle with 150-160mm forks, which isn't nice for climbing.

There is no systematic correlation between amount of travel and quality of the fork. Make sure you do need that much travel first. You may be better off with 100/120mm of well damped travel.

The MMMbop frames' designed around a 130-150mm fork, so a permenant travel shorter one will mess up the geometry for descending ect.
