Hello Chaps,

Had some correspondence with Epic via email, cut a long story shortish, i've will their 2010 bikes be reduced with the arrival of the 2011 models. They've said no which i find strange is this another example of shops/dealers exploiting the popularity of cycling, or just genuine market conditions?

That is strange as most shops want to shift old stock to make way for new :? unless they have not met there target figures and need to make up the money and or just being greedy just speculating :?:
  • Wahey, a reply.

They said they have more customers than bikes, and if i wanted a discounted/sale bike i should look at ex demo's.......put me off Epic a bit to be honest

I was after a new bike for the wife last year and found the outgoing model at my LBS, tried to haggle the price down with no joy, the guy said that the bike companies are building a lot fewer bikes now and that they had not started releasing the new stuff at that time and there were only a handful of the outgoing bikes left in the country. Managed to get them to fit a computor for free in the end.
Its possible the bike companies are getting better at predicting stock levels and are not over producing now.

Some people are just throwing money at bike shops.

Maybe 0% finance may be better than a discount? I don't think you should be put off by them not selling off cheaply.
    I like white bikes
  • So how can they wheel out (no pun intended) the old, it's costing more to produce etc etc, if they are getting less produced then that argument doesn't add up surely

It's not the shops that discount, it's the distributors looking to clear old stock for next years models and shops then pass on the savings. If there's no dead stock to shift then why discount? Certain brands and models never get discounted because supply is well matched to demand, but if you're after a Trek / Specialized / Giant etc whose RRPs are over-inflated, then sales are a good time to shop.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
