Hey guys, was riding my bike earlier, and realised just how slow they are at stopping me, and i'm not even that heavy. Does anyone know of anything I can do to boost performance of the brakes? Even at full depression of the lever, they seem to barely do anything. What should I attempt to adjust? Or are they even worth messing worth, or would better brakes be recommended?

have you let them bed in yet?

how long have you had them?

    more info.

Dont forget every time you adjust them/move them/ remove the wheel they need to bed/settle in again.

  • Went on a 50km ride today after getting it back from the shop. How long does beding or settling normally take? They didn't seem to be that great after my first few rides, around 200 or so km in total before they got air inside and had to be bled.

This is why I got rid of mine, constant trouble and under powered for my riding

You had the same ones and they seemed pretty shiite as well. I've ridden quite a few serious rides, and on the downhills I found myself having to start pulling the lever way farther ahead than I should be of the turns to get myself to the proper speed to go through the corner. Was well annoying.

Can anyone recommend some good value brakes, looking for hydrolic but not sure exactly what ones are the good ones and not overly expensive.

shimano SLX brakes are pretty damn sweet for the money.

  • Does anyone know if maybe I put more brake fluid in the lines it would make it stop a little better, or at least make the lever feel a bit more responsive? Don't have the cash to spunk on some new brakes yet, and need to sort this out a cheap way if possible.

Won't help if the brakes are already ok
  • Hmm looks like I need to start saving for new brakes then, ugh.

Why can't hayes make a decent entry level hydrolic brake without having it fail and be weak. I swear the V brakes on my wifes 350pound brake are better and more reliable and have more stopping power.

You used lube near the pads? Maybe contaminated? New pads could be a cheap fix? Again try superstar.
