Why is my £1400 bike so heavy?

OK, so its not £1400 now as it on sale, but I want to know why its so heavy compared to other people's bikes!
It's this bike:

Changes I've made.
Mavic Aksium
Bontrager Hardcase Racelites (these are heavy I think)
Easton Alu Post
350 g SPD pedals
Selle San marco saddle - Ti rails
Otherwise the spec is above, where is the weight as I have seen people with similar price range bikes that weigh a full kilo less than this, if not more!!

How heavy actually is it?
Are you comparing simiilar cost bikes to yours? If so, what do they weigh & what are their specs?0 -
Sorry, what an idiot I've forgotten to post the weight!
The weight is 9,6KG according to my electronic scales.
CAAD 9 with some half decent wheels and similar spec seems to weigh about 1.5 KG less than mine...Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -
Difficult to say exactly why the differnce is that much but does it matter? If the bike fits & you like it why start looking at other ones?0

Not looking at others, and yes I do like it,but I want every chance of bing quicker, so I thought there may be an obvious area that all this weight is..I doubt its the frame...Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

Weight really doesn't matter that much.
But, if you're desperate, buy a new seatpost and cut it down a bit, lose the Shimano pedals (bombproof but heavy) and get some new wheels and tyres.

Because before I sold it to you, I filled the frame with lead.Say... That's a nice bike..
Trax T700 with Lew Racing Pro VT-1 ;-)0 -
.I doubt its the frame..
Why wouldn't it be the frame?
Your bike is very slightly lardy but on par for an alloy frame with the level of components you have on it.
My Kinesis TK (cost £1000), has an alloy frame, Shimano 105 and Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels (about the same weight as your Shimano RS10s)( and weighs 20.5 pounds without mudguards which I think is respectable for an alloy frame. How much were you expecting the bike to weigh?
If you shop around you can probably find a set of wheels that are 500g lighter than the RS10s for £300 quid or so. I've never heard of Scor components so maybe the handlebars stem and seat post could be lightened. Its going to cost you £400 to take a pound and a bit off the bike which will give you a vanishingly small performance gain- is it worth it?0 -
Whilst ever little helps, I'm currently 5kg over target weight if i lost that much weight off my bike it would need to be made of (thinks desperately for some thing very light) I know Paper, card and pritt stick!
I know where I can lose mega weight it just needs a lot of will power.
As previous posts have said you can lose 500g by buying new wheels and tyres.
I could lose a ton of weight by not carrying around so many tools, pump, CO2 tubes etc etc.
You can spend loads of money on a new group set.
I lifted a mates Speciailized tarmac S-works, it feels like a feather, from this I conclude that they have spent loads of money on everything to save weight everywhere, back to the every little helps especially if you apply it to everything !!!
By the way I have a compostite ali/carbon bike and it weighs about 9kg so 9 and a bit sounds ok to me for ali.I ache, therefore I am.0 -
My bike weighs about 8.9kg and when new would have cost considerably more than £1400, doesnt bother me really. Its bomb proof rides well and is quick enough for me.
I worry more about my weight than the bikes.Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -
My Spesh Tarmac 2006 model weighed 9.17kg when I got it.
Now weighs less than 8kg.
If your really interested, pick a rainy Saturday when the misses is out, bring the bike in the front room and gradually dismantle it and weigh each part. Then work out the £ per gram to replace those parts, to help prioritise where to start!
Its all excuses to buy bling though and in the real world it makes next to no difference.0 -

Being quicker? Lose weight yourself and train harder.
