Sram rival chainset coming loose??
Hi,
I recently installed a SRAM rival chainset and after buggering about with the what seems to be shite BB which came with it.. and NO instructions and conflicting advice on using washers, no washer, one washer etc etc...
I finally decided on one washer on the driveside in the BB because without the washer I would have to massively tighten the the crank until there was no play in the chainset.
I went for a small ride to test the setup and the bolt in the chainset seemed to loosen! Is this just bedding in the chainset and the bolt may loosen off a little, or can it completely undo while riding??

on a road bike no spacers are needed.
adding the spacer will cause the crank to press on the drive side bearing which is bad.
the design does not use any preload and has the axle clamping both sides of the non drive bearing.
you may just need a bit more grease on the bearings.

Cheers,
I'll remove the spacer and add some grease, see what happens!0 -
Agree with Nick, no washers required for a road bike.
If you can't get the crank to tighten properly, take apart and put more grease on the splines. I.e both drive and left crank.0 -
I bought the bullet & bought the ceramic bearing BB to go with my rival chainset, done 3-4000 km since & still silky smooth. In fact getting better it seems. I know people wonder why do you have to pay more to "upgrade", but you do get what you pay for as they say. Get an original not a shimmed copy.
So much better than a certain japanese manufacturer. I only swapped after realising one day while cleaning my chain that my ultegra BB, relatively new,was so seized that it basically needed my leg strength to get it to turn!
I found that if you cover the BB with a clean thin bit of sheet like rag it takes up the play as you install/remove, so that you don't slip or leave marks on the BB itself. Was using a campag tool.0 -
Thanks for the advice..
I took off the spacers and applied some grease on the splines as mentioned and it seems ok now!0
