Spesh Allez integrated headset question
Attempted to service my headset lastnight (stock spesh mindset) but in the process managed to damage the bearing cage and lose some of the ball bearings.
So looks like I'm going to now have to replace the whole thing, looking on the web it looks like the cane creek IS headsets fit, which is fine as I can pick up one and not have that much down time.

This is what I'm stuck on, as I'm not sure what they mean by cups :?
The loose parts I've got out are top part;
The spacers, the headset top cover, the shim, the compression ring, the bearing cage, a metal ring (is this a cup)
bottom part: metal ring, bearing cage, crown race (still on forks)
This leaves the head tube with a 'cup' or seat for the removable cups in the top and the bottom, those aren't what I'm meant to take out with a hammer are they, as I'm sure they are part of the frame.
Probably a silly question :oops:
Thanks

Remove the cups from the head tube. I very carefully used a hammer and screwdriver.

Errrm, if you have caged loose bearings you can just put loose bearings in without the cage.
Cheaper than a new headset, and you're much less likely to knacker your frame if you're not attacking your headset with a hammer and punch and no clue.0 -
thanks for the quick reply, problem is I'm not really sure what size bearings they should be as all information I can find on the spesh headset is regarding people replacing them.
I don't really mind replacing the whole thing as it's an excuse for an upgrade, and I just want to be able to ride this weekend
I've had a look on the cane creek site, and it looks like I've got everything off the frame that I need to already.0 -
If you just need bearings, find a local place that sells/makes them, take one of your existing bearings and ask for the smallest quantity of these they'll sell you! They'll work it out for you, cheap and quick.0
