Hi guys!

Sorry for my noobie-nes just started riding my genesis altitude 20 and i've come across some problems...

the front hub seems loose on the maxle... is it supposed to have a little play? as in... it can rock side to side...

The seat clamp seems to slip alot... i physically cant get it any tighter... its bending the quick release clamp... its the one that came on it...

And finally, How can i change my gear set to a 2speed with a bash ring at the front? i would ideally like to keep the same/similar looking levers for the shifter... guessing i dont need to change the mech...

thats it for now... any help is appreciated :)

I swear the factories in Taiwan that make components have two bins at the end of the production line. One is marked 'Aftermarket' and the other is marked 'Original Equipment'. All the under/oversize components go in the 'Original Equipment' bin...
  • mmm... it would seem that way...

    nothing i can do?

i looked and there doesnt seem to be any way of making the maxle hub any smaller/tighter fitting...

the hub is a Shimano SLX Centre-Lock 20mm

anyone recommend a 27.2mm seat post/clamp... not sure which is the problem...

The front wheel shouldn't have any play on it.
The Maxle is nowhere similar to the QR.
    Here's how to:

And buy yourself new qr seat clamp. I have no recommendations.
  • I swapped from a salsa QR to a hope QR clamp and the improvement was awesome the self lubricating bush on the hope is excellent. I cant recommend them enough.

  • its a maxle 360 on a Shimano SLX hub... any ideas how i can get rid of the play? think it may be in the bearings but i'm not sure how to check?

Joe, when did you buy the bike? The hub and seat clamp should be sorted by the retailer, unless you've had the bike a while.

Your original mech will be fine with a bash ring set up. All you need to do is replace the big ring with an appropriately sized bash.

When you close the maxle does it have much tension in the QR mechanism? If not adjust the hex bolt located inside the Maxle head until it feels more like a tight QR. This will take up any available slack (I think)

The QR bit just holds everything in place, there should be no play after tightening the maxle up. If the bike is new, take it back and get the shop to sort it, easy fix is for them to try another front wheel. No play in that and away you go.
As for the seat clamp, get the Hope, they are very good.
Bash ring? Fit the bash guard and limit the high screw on the front mech.

i got it through cycle to work....

i guess i can only try... if not... i may be buying a new hub...

not too fussed about the qr... as i want a red one anyway :P

so i should limit the high shift point and then just continue using my 3sp shifter on the front?
