New bike advice needed

Hi,
I'm buying a new bike to replace an old Marin Nail Trail. I've a budget of £750 and want to get a hard tail. Have looked at Cube Acid, Cannondale Trail SL3 and Specialized Rockhopper.
After going into my local Evans today, who punted their Pinnacle Evolution 2, I now have more questions than answers and am nowhere nearer making a choice. Could really do with some independent advice and opinions on a good bike for the money.

It's horses for courses...all very similar.... to me the Cube (available for around £680) has the best spec..
Or this is a great buy at £420 and had probably a better spec than the Cannondale which is over £300 pounds more expensive...which leaves loads in the bank to upgrade overtime !
