i have a slight bent on my presta valve needle. is this something i should worry? as for now it does not give me problems. i still can pump air into the tube like normal. just the needle only is bent.

No it won't unless you are miles from anywhere. Sounds like you twisted the pump head and bent the valve. Always take the pumphead off in a single straight motion if possible. So if the valve is at 12 o clock, push the head down towards 6 o clock.

You may find that it snaps off at some point
  • Buy Vittoria: removable valves cores. No need to chuck if you snap a core.

all mine end up this way when I use my mini pump
  • For the price of a tube change it now. it will only snap when it is most inconvenient.

How do you know he's not riding a week old £40 tub? Oh, yeah - he did say 'tube'.

Can't understand why all valve cores are not removable these days.

FWIW the purpose of the collar is only to 'lock' the valve closed - the pressure of the air in the tyre should force it closed anyway
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Agreed. The statement that it's slightly bent and causing no problems would suggest that it's absolutely nothing to worry about. It will likely only break if you try and bend it back.

Carefull using CO2 on Vittoria's though, The core can freeze onto the cartridge head and unscrew from the valve - as happened to me last winter. Very annoying and oh yeh then I bent the valve head when using a mini pump.........

I've left it bent since the winter without problems btw but that's just me, replace it if you're worried!

Until it snaps after a puncture and then the core disappears into the tube somewhere...

Not very likely. In most cases, the core length is greater than the diameter of the uninflated tube. It would have to break below the bend to find its way into the tube.
Moreover, the OP suggests that this is a slight bend. I would imagine that a fair percentage of presta valves on the road have a slight bend in the needle.

+1 you can bet it will go when its your last inner tube and only way home - bend it back see if it snaps - better it breaks at home than anywhere else

bend it back see if it snaps

Bend it 20 times, just to make absolutely sure, why don't you?

It's the bending it back that will increase the chances of it snapping.

It will be fine - and it doesn't prevent you from carrying a spare tube.
