Carbon Fork Peeling
Whilst cleaning my bike I noticed that the inside the outer edge and along the inside of my carbon fork having started peeling. I take it that it is done for. Here's a pic?

Looks like it's almost dead; if you'd like a medium term fix, go and buy some polyester resin and apply 5 or 6 thin coats to the area in question. It'll stop anymore peeling and add a little strength but resin is approximately 100 times weaker than CF hence if you crash, the resin isn't going to stop it from breaking. You could patch it with more cf but that would look very crude ad not be too much better than just applying resin to be honest.0

what bike is it on? how long have you had it?oh my god not another hill !!!0

It Planet X Ti Sportive. It's 2 years, 1 month & 20 something days old. The frame is a lifetime guarantee however I would imagine that the fork only has a 2 year warranty so looks like my luck is out on that one.
Just picked up my rack today and was setting the bike up for it when I noticed the problem. Oh well back to normal plan. Carbon bike and rucksack
Savagestorm thanks for the tips but I think I will just have to bite the bullet and replace as I would be worried about it failing mid ride.0 -
crashed recently?
I see cracks on the far edge as well as the delamination seen here.0 -

No crashes on it. Crashed on the carbon bike but that's over a year ago.
There's a line on the outside which lower down. And there is a line further up on the inside and then there is the peeling which is worst at the edges. The other side of the fork has one little patch of peeling but it is very tiny in comparison.0 -
Just ran off to check. No the marks on are on the levers of the carbon bike. The levers on this bike are like new even though it does all the winter work.0

I wouldn't ride on them any more, I swear I can see cracks when I zoomed in on the photo. Looks like you'd be up for a serious 'faceplant' if they broke.0

Looks like something has hit it. Looks like two scratch marks coming off the top chip. Don't suppose you let other people near the bike?0

Sorry, was travelling most of the day. No no one else rides this bike, or any of my bikes. I do find the damage strange myself however I can't explain it easily. I don't race on the bikes so I don't take big risks on any of my bikes. I only ever had an accident once and that was at stationary traffic lights where someone moved off in front and then slammed on the brakes and I had only had one place to go and that was sideways but that was on my other bike which is my Scott CR1 Team. So I really can't explain it as nothing out of the oridnary has happened. Maybe potholes but then again the wheels have stood up so can't have been that bad. Just a pain that it happened now rather than 2 months ago.
Have to get to bed. Riding at 11am tomorrow0
