Hi all, please help:
I've got a Ridgeback Flight T3 flat bar bike that I'd like to convert to drops.
My precise questions are......
1. does anyone know how much reach extension would be involved when you move from standard (no-rise) flat-bar to a drop bar(shifter hoods)
2. I currently use a 10cm stem on this bike, 0 degree, i.e. no tilt). I am willing to consider converting to a 8cm stem while keeping the same stem angle which I prefer(so pls no suggestions to alter stem angle). Will using an 8cm stem compromise the handling to any relevant significant level?

Many thanks to all who respond.

    Hi,

Don't think dropping to an 80mm will change as the feel will be different anyway.

Try an 80mm and tweak everything to suit.

Fit the angle of the drops 1st so that they are comfy when on the drops.

Then fit the bifters so they are comfy when on the hoods.

Nip it all up and go for a quick ride.

If you've never ridden drops before, it takes a while.

Took me 3 months before I was used to them (after years on flats) and I don't regret it one bit.

    Pat...
