Similar pedals to MBUK freebies a few years ago

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy my first road bike and will need to get some pedals. I have got the Shimano freebies that came with a subscription to MBUK a few years ago on my MTB and the cleats that came with these on my shoes.

I'd rather not have to get a second pair of shoes, so wondered if there are any pedals I could get for the road bike which I can use with the cleats I've already got.

Unfortunately I don't remember exactly which pedal it was so I'm hoping someone else had the same free gift....

If they were Shimano MTB pedals they'll be simple SPD's You can get a pair of M520 pedals for about £20 on-line. Lots of people use SPD pedals / shoes on their road bikes, me included
  • Thanks for that.

They are simple SPDs and that's what I was hoping to do, I just wanted to check that new SPDs (such as the M520s) are compatible with the cleats that are already in my shoes.

If the cleats in your shoes look like this:

Then you can use Shimano SPDs. M520s are good, M540s are a little bit better (slightly smoother) if you can splash a bit more.

Yeah, should be. Cleats should be SM-SH56, but most SH series cleats work in SPD pedals, they just disengage in different ways.

Essentially, what you want is this:

    05 Kona King Kikapu
