I used to know someone who did the same thing - name his kids after nazis.

He had an obsession with them and collected a lot of nazi memorabilia. On a Saturday morning he'd stand at his front window and make a nazi salute at the 'red sea pedestrians' on their way to the synagogue. F**kwit!

My Dad was unfortunate enough to have Adolf as one of his middle names. He was born in 1922 so the name didn't have the same connotations as it does now.
He was on the last boat out of Guernsey before the Germans landed and joined the Royal Navy the day he landed ashore. Funnily enough he didn't use Adolf as on of his names when he signed up.

I wonder when it will be acceptable to use the name?

    Long winded yarn....

When my daughter was six (or so) she was on holiday with my wife's parent in Blackpool. She was obsessed at this time with some sort of e-puppy game on her Nintendo (the one that responded to voice prompts) and called to tell me that she had won a new puppy. Her mind was still unmade despite speaking to a number of the elderly residents in the day room of the hotel, and she wanted my help to pick between a little white poodle or a hefty alasatian. After a little discussion she decided to go for the alsatian and we moved on to naming the dog.

That evening my father in law called to inform me of the displeasured looks they were all receiving as they sat in the day room, surrounded by greys, and my daughter innocently called her dog, "Here boy, here Himmler. Himmler! Here boy. Good boy Himmler."

Borderline genius on my part I feel. :)
