Hello,
Can someone give ma an idea of the types of events that are out there for me to take part in? I'm happy to do long rides on my own but wondered what other things I can try?
So far I'm signing up for a London - Paris ride
Cheers
Tom

TT, these are done on your own
, and you can do 10, 25, 50 or 100 mile ones. You can also do a 12 or 24 hour TT as well.
If it is non competitive riding you are more interested in, then as above doing an Audax is good.0 -
Hi mate, have a look at your local clubs, they'll introduce you to all sorts of different types of riding (social, challenge, TTs, races). It's also a great way of finding new places and routes.0

After I got into cycling via a charity ride, I went looking for events to enter. After considering local CTC rides and Audax, I went witrh Audax.
The pros -
Low cost to enter - £2.50 - £5.00 is normal
Friendly bunch of riders, who will help if you have a problem
Events happen all over the UK, every weekend and some weekdays too
Not competitive (times are not recorded) although pace naturally varies
The cons -
You have to navigate round a specific route (if you wnat to qualify as a finisher)
Events happen all year round, and there's no-one to collect you when its dark, cold and starts raining
Now I've got to grips with my Garmin eTrex Legend, I can get round a route, but it's nice to buddy up with someone your pace, and share the ride. That's why I do Audax, to share the enjoyment of a long day out on my bike.
Oh and cake.
Lycra ManFCN7 - 1 for SPDs = FCN60 -
I do one or two long charity rides a year as an incentive, I enter through Bike Events or Do it For Charity
But, as above, you can always join a clubRichard

Many charity runs are organised by BIKE EVENTS.COM but most of this years biggies are gone (Manchester 100 in September is still to come)The British Heart Foundation do some (see the BHF eventsr website). No strict rules on raising money for chairties except the enrol fee .If you do overesas ones eg Vietnam or Cuba etc they often require minimum fundraising of £1000+.Cycling events and holidays abroad.are wonderful.jc0
